Buying a Whole-House Water System: What Happens Next?
You buy the system from Clearhouse and arrange installation with your own plumber. Confirm the model and installation plan before ordering, check the delivered equipment, then have your installer complete setup and show you how to care for it.
1. Confirm the plan before you order
Use your water report and home details to narrow the options. Keep the softener optional if hardness has not been confirmed. Then share the product link, selected size and manufacturer’s manual with the plumber you want to hire.
Ask the installer to confirm the location, connections, available flow and pressure, and any drain or power requirements. Request a written quote that separates installation from the equipment purchase.
| Step | Responsible party |
|---|---|
| Equipment purchase | You order the selected system through Clearhouse. |
| Installation quote and booking | You choose and hire your plumber. |
| Site suitability and installation | Your plumber reviews the home and completes the agreed work. |
| Ongoing care | You follow the maintenance schedule, with a plumber or service provider if preferred. |
Review the current product description, shipping information, return terms and warranty details before paying. Installation is a separate agreement with your plumber. An equipment order does not book an installer.
2. Check the delivery before booking the final visit
Use the delivery information supplied for your order. Confirm that all expected packages have arrived before setting a firm installation appointment; this guide does not promise a standard transit time.
- Compare the labels and model numbers with your order.
- Check the package contents against the packing list.
- Photograph visible damage and keep the packaging and delivery records.
- Resolve missing or damaged items through the support contact shown on your order before installation begins.
Keep the equipment in an appropriate location while you wait. The Crystal Quest manual gives handling and environmental requirements for the system.
3. Have your plumber install and start the system
Give the installer the manual supplied with your exact equipment. Follow that manual for connections, flushing, startup and settings. This article is a planning checklist, not an installation procedure.
Ask which fixtures will be treated, whether outdoor or irrigation lines will be excluded, and how the system can be bypassed for service. If you selected a softener, have the installer confirm the hardness setting and explain regeneration.
Have the plumber complete the agreed leak and operation checks. If the system was selected to address a measured contaminant, ask what follow-up testing is needed to verify the result.
4. Get a short handover before the plumber leaves
- Find the shutoff and bypass: know which controls your installer wants you to use.
- Record the setup: save model numbers, serial numbers, settings and the installation date.
- Understand normal operation: ask about backwashing or regeneration for your model.
- Agree on maintenance: note what you will do and what you want the plumber to service.
- Keep contact details: save the installer’s details, equipment documents and order confirmation together.
5. Put the maintenance dates somewhere you will find them
The manufacturer’s whole-house manual recommends replacing the pre- and postfilter cartridges about every 12–18 months, or sooner when conditions require it. Softener owners should check salt monthly. Tank media and resin are serviced separately from the external cartridges.
Use the guidance for your supplied equipment and your installer’s advice. View the Replacement Filter Pack to check compatible cartridge numbers and replacement details.
Keep your own reminder: add the installation date and a cartridge-check reminder to your calendar. Buying a system does not automatically enroll you in replacement deliveries.
Common questions
Does Clearhouse choose or pay the plumber?
You choose, hire and pay your plumber. Confirm their scope and charges directly.
Should I book installation before the system arrives?
Arrange the site review and quote early. Confirm the final installation date after the complete order has arrived and been checked.
Can I decide about softening later?
You can start by choosing filtration and keep softening optional. Ask your plumber whether leaving room for a future softener makes sense for your installation.
