City of Savannah — Main System

2026 water quality report · 2025 reporting year

Public water system GA0510003. Use these measurements only for this system; they do not describe private wells or every address in Chatham County.

Your water at a glance

See the amount, the comparison and what it means. “Below” refers to the stated benchmark, not zero risk.

Hardness

Moderately hard regional estimate

87mg/L as CaCO₃

MyTapWater estimates 5.1 gpg for Chatham County from USGS data. This is regional context, not measured hardness for this utility or your tap.

USGS: soft ≤60; moderately hard 61–120 mg/L as CaCO₃.

Regional estimate · sample year not identifiedView source

Chlorine

Check conflicting range

2.20mg/L

The city lists 2.20 ppm as detected but 0.01–1.20 ppm as the range.

The listed residual limit is 4 mg/L. Ask Savannah to clarify the discrepancy.

Fluoride

Below 4 mg/L limit

1.26mg/L

Reported detection; range 0.05–1.26.

MCL in the utility report: 4 mg/L.

Total trihalomethanes (TTHM)

No numeric rating

Verify with utility

The online TTHM row displays percent removal, not a TTHM concentration.

A percentage cannot be compared with a TTHM limit in µg/L. The I&D figure belongs to a different system.

Haloacetic acids (HAA5)

Below 60 µg/L limit

41.025µg/L

City table’s reported result; individual samples nondetect–76.

The listed limit is 60 µg/L and uses an annual-average basis. Individual samples are not compliance averages.

Arsenic

Below 10 µg/L limit

6µg/L

Reported detection; range nondetect–6.

MCL in the utility report: 10 µg/L.

Lead

One tap above action level

3.9µg/L

90th percentile; sampled taps ranged from 0 to 100 µg/L.

The 90th percentile is below the report’s 15 µg/L action level. This is not a household lead test.

Turbidity

Above 95% minimum

99.34% below 0.3 NTU

Percentage of samples meeting the clarity threshold.

The utility lists a 95% treatment-technique criterion.

In drinking water, ppm ≈ mg/L, ppb ≈ µg/L and ppt ≈ ng/L. Calculated hardness in grains per US gallon (gpg) = mg/L as CaCO₃ ÷ 17.118, rounded to one decimal. ND means below the reporting limit, not zero.

MCL means a regulatory contaminant limit; MRDL is a disinfectant limit. Lead and copper use tap-sampling action levels. TTHM and HAA5 compliance is assessed using running averages at specific locations, not the highest single sample.

PFAS results depend on the compound, sample location, year and reporting limit. A missing result or nondetect is not proof of zero PFAS. EPA PFAS benchmarks and implementation ↗

More about your local water

What this means for your home

Savannah Main and I&D have different water sources and notices.

The City of Savannah publishes reports for additional service areas, including other groundwater systems. A Savannah mailing address is not sufficient to distinguish them. Use the city’s map if your bill does not give a system name.

A useful local question

Does the I&D notice apply to every Savannah customer?

The notice identifies the I&D treatment plant and the May 2025 incident. Check the city’s service-area information and current instructions rather than applying that notice to every Chatham County home.

Sources and methodology

Results retain the utility, sample year, units and comparison used in the source. Hardness is shown separately as a utility measurement, utility guidance or regional estimate. USGS categories describe mineral content, not drinking-water safety.

Different name on your water bill?

Use the published report for your own retail water system. These sources can help identify the right report; a county or ZIP alone cannot confirm service.
