Dallas uses chloramine and publishes a separate water-quality report from neighboring cities. Its older utility hardness guidance is 120–155 mg/L; use that context alongside a current home test when selecting softening.

The report follows your water provider—not your ZIP code or county boundary.
Only the listed water system is summarized here. Choose “Other / not sure” if your bill shows a different supplier.

Dallas Water Utilities results apply to that supplier, not every city in Dallas County. Irving, Garland and Grand Prairie have separate distribution-system results.

ppm ≈ mg/L; ppb ≈ µg/L; ppt ≈ ng/L in drinking water. Hardness in gpg = mg/L as CaCO₃ ÷ 17.1. ND means not detected at the method’s reporting limit—not zero.
MCL is a maximum contaminant level. MRDL is a disinfectant limit. Lead/copper action levels use system sampling percentiles and are not a safe-tap threshold. TTHM/HAA5 compliance uses locational annual averages.
PFOA/PFOS comparisons use EPA’s 4 ppt values. Historical detections are not a present compliance finding; EPA assesses compliance using running annual averages. Rule implementation is being reviewed. EPA PFAS benchmarks and implementation ↗

More about your local water
A Dallas postal address and a Dallas Water Utilities account are not always the same thing. Confirm the utility first. This page separates older hardness guidance from the 2025 contaminant results instead of silently presenting every number as current.
A useful local question
The 2025 water-quality report supplies the contaminant results here. The verified numerical hardness range comes from a December 2023 city memorandum, so it is labeled as older guidance rather than a new measurement.
We keep each utility’s results separate, show the reported sample year, and distinguish averages, maxima and tap-sampling percentiles. Hardness classifications use USGS ranges. Missing data stays unknown.
