Whole-home water, made simple
Better water at every tap starts with the right filter.
Here’s how to choose a whole-home water system that fits your water, your home, and your everyday life.

A pitcher filters the water you pour into it. What about the water in the rest of your home?
The shower. The laundry. The bathroom sink. Whole-home filtration treats water at the main line, before it flows to your home’s connected taps and appliances.
The first step is choosing the right treatment. Clearhouse helps you match a system to your water, household size, and goals—then gives you a clear plan to review with your plumber.

Start where water enters your home.
For city water with chlorine taste, odor, or sediment concerns, a whole-home filter brings treatment to the main water line.
- Less chlorine taste and odor. Filtration targets the taste and smell that can make tap water less enjoyable.
- Sediment caught along the way. A prefilter captures suspended particles such as dirt and sand.
- Filtration beyond the kitchen. Water flowing through the system is treated before reaching the connected fixtures throughout your home.
With the right system, filtration becomes part of your home’s plumbing. You use your taps as usual and follow the equipment’s maintenance schedule.
A filter and a softener solve different problems.
This is the distinction that makes the whole decision easier.
| A filter | Targets chlorine taste, odor, and sediment. Specific contaminant reduction depends on the exact system. |
|---|---|
| A softener | Reduces the hardness minerals that cause mineral spots and scale. |
| Both together | Make sense when your water needs filtration and you also want hardness reduction. |
Start with filtration. Add softening when your measured hardness and goals call for it. Already have a working softener? Tell us. Your existing equipment matters, too.
Real equipment. A clear reason to choose it.
Clearhouse’s stainless steel whole-home filter uses Crystal Quest SMART filtration, with three main treatment stages:
A sediment prefilter
Captures suspended particles before water reaches the main tank.
A SMART filtration tank
Uses a blend of filtration media to treat water as it passes through.
A carbon postfilter
Provides a final stage for taste and odor.

Your home helps determine your system.
Two homes on the same street can have different water demands. The number of bathrooms, people at home, and fixtures running at once all matter.
Our recommendation flow asks about your home, your water source, existing equipment, and what you want to improve. You’ll see a starting system and size, with an explanation of why it was suggested.
You don’t need to know every answer. Choose “I’m not sure” where needed. The next step will help identify what your plumber should confirm.
Order online. Keep installation local.
You buy the equipment from Clearhouse and choose a licensed plumber to install it. Here’s the process:
Confirm the fit before you buy.
Share the equipment brief and manufacturer’s manual with your plumber. They check your water, flow needs, plumbing, available space, power, and drain access.
Get a separate installation quote.
Know the cost of labor, site-specific parts, and any preparation before placing your equipment order.
Order your system. Schedule installation.
Equipment ships free within the U.S. Once it arrives, your plumber connects the system and handles setup and final checks.

You choose, hire, and pay your plumber directly. Clearhouse does not book or supervise installation. See how installation works.
What should you budget?
Start with the equipment price, then add your plumber’s installation quote and any applicable taxes. Here are the starting prices for our city-water systems:
Free U.S. shipping on equipment. Larger sizes and add-ons cost more. Installation, site-specific parts, applicable taxes, and future maintenance are separate.
Your recommendation helps you understand the equipment choice before you decide what to buy.
A few things worth knowing.
Will this filter remove everything in my water?
No single system treats every water concern. Our city-water filter targets chlorine taste, odor, and sediment. Check the exact model’s performance information against your water results and goals before ordering.
Does a ZIP-code report test my tap water?
No. A local utility report describes the public water supply. It is a useful starting point, but it does not test your home’s plumbing or the water at your tap. Confirm your utility and use home water testing for final treatment decisions.
What if my home uses well water?
Choose “A private well” in the recommendation flow. Well water needs current lab testing and a treatment review, so we’ll direct you to the well-water options instead of assuming a city-water system fits.
Is installation included?
No. You purchase the equipment from Clearhouse and hire your own licensed plumber. Get a separate installation quote before ordering.
What maintenance will I need to do?
For the whole-home filter, plan to replace sediment and carbon cartridges every 12–18 months, or sooner if your conditions require it. Tank media has a separate service schedule. A salt-based softener also needs salt refills. Follow the manual for your exact equipment.
Can I use this in a condo or a larger home?
Shared plumbing, high water demand, and limited installation space need a professional review. Enter your actual home details so the next step can reflect those requirements.
